The Kit

The raw fuselage kit arrived at Hangar 18 in September, 2000. Over the next year, this pile o' parts will be pieced together into a complete airplane! Extensive details regarding the kit can be found on the kit description section of the official Velocity website.

Basically, the kit is comprised of a number of larger, premolded parts in addition to the fuselage halves plus a large number of boxes of smaller pieces, fittings and other hardware and raw materials for constructing the kit. I've provided several line drawings of the Velocity XL RG, generously supplied by Velocity Aircraft and Malcolm Collier of Hangar 18.

The construction of this kit over the next year is detailed in chronological order in the sections to follow. I have tried to illustrate the overall process of the build, in particular those tasks which are more difficult (such as door installaion and fuel cell/strake construction) or in which we have deviated from the plans (such as the canard cover treatment, overhead cabin reinforcements, NACA scoops and others). Please feel free to email me or post comments or suggestions in the GuestBook.
